Large enterprises often have a dedicated compliance or legal operations team whose entire job is tracking regulatory deadlines, license renewals, and filing dates. Most small and mid-sized businesses don't have that luxury — compliance tracking is usually one more responsibility bolted onto someone's existing role, squeezed in between their actual job.
Why "add it to the to-do list" doesn't scale
To-do lists work for tasks with no fixed deadline pressure. Compliance deadlines are different: they're externally imposed, often carry penalties for lateness, and don't announce themselves the way an incoming email does. A task that sits quietly at the bottom of a to-do list for three months is a very different risk than a compliance deadline that sits quietly for the same three months.
A lightweight approach that doesn't need a compliance department
- Maintain one list of every compliance-relevant deadline — licenses, permits, filings, insurance, contracts — regardless of which department owns it.
- Set reminders well ahead of each deadline, not on the day it's due.
- Make the list visible to more than one person, so it survives someone being on leave or leaving the company.
- Review it on a fixed schedule (monthly is usually enough) rather than only when something is already overdue.
This is precisely the gap CorpoAlert is built for — see our Security & Compliance page for how access control and activity logging support this, or start with our guide on why deadlines get missed in the first place.
